Exeter full-back Tommy Wyatt ruled out for the remainder of 2025

Exeter Chiefs full-back Tommy Wyatt will miss the first few months of the 2025/26 season after being booked in for a second knee operation.

Wyatt suffered an ACL injury to his right knee in January 2024 and spent 10 months on the sidelines. And he is now set to be out of action again, having ruptured the ACL on his left knee.

The 25-year-old was a regular presence in the Chiefs team this season with er at full-back or on the wing until he injured his hamstring in the Premiership Rugby Cup final defeat to Bath, which led to a five-week lay-off.

Wyatt regained fitness to feature in the final two games of the Premiership season, against Harlequins and Sale, only to suffer more misfortune against the Sharks.

“Sadly, having suffered an ACL injury on his right knee last season, Tommy has now ruptured the ACL on his left knee. He now has surgery booked in and will face six to nine months in a rehabilitation process to return to play,” said Chiefs Director of Rugby Rob Baxter.

“Everyone is gutted for Tommy. He worked extremely hard to come back from last season’s injury and was beginning to really break through again in our most recent games.

“From what we’ve been told from our medical contacts, this is an injury that Tommy was more structurally predisposed to suffering, having already injured his other ACL.

“The only slight positive we can take from this situation is that once he completes this latest period of rehabilitation, Tommy will be even stronger.

“We know he’ll work extremely hard to get back fit. Everyone is helping to ensure he remains in good spirits, and we’ll all do what we can to try to get him moving forward in his recovery as soon as possible.”
