Crusaders support forwards coach for USA Eagles World Cup opportunity
Crusaders forwards coach Dan Perrin will take up an international opportunity with the USA Eagles ahead of the Rugby World Cup in 2027, but will stay with the Christchurch-based Super Rugby Pacific franchise in the upcoming season.
Dan Perrin, who has been the Crusaders forwards coach since 2023, will continue his role in Scott Hansen’s staff but will join the Eagles for the rest of their 2026 fixtures and next year’s Rugby World Cup.
USA has an upcoming series against Australia A, Georgia, Romania, and Hong Kong China, which Perrin will assist with ahead of the 2027 Super Rugby Pacific season.
Perrin’s fixed-term role will see him take over the team’s forwards department, ahead of next year’s pool clashes against Japan, France, and Samoa.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with USA Rugby and contribute to their programme. Rugby continues to evolve and grow around the world, and as coaches, we’re always looking for opportunities to learn, challenge ourselves,” Perrin said.
“Working with a different group of players and coaches will provide valuable experiences that I can bring back to the Crusaders, and I’m fortunate to have the support of the club to pursue opportunities like this.”
New Crusaders head coach Scott Hansen said that Perrin’s opportunity will make him a better coach moving forward.
“Exposure to different teams, players, and coaching groups broadens your thinking and ultimately makes you better at what you do,” says Hansen.
“The experience Dan gains will be valuable for both his own development and our programme when he returns. We’re proud to see him take on this opportunity while remaining an important part of our coaching group.”
Perrin previously coached Tasman in the NPC in 2022, before taking a role with the Crusaders alongside Scott Robertson. Perrin’s playing career included stints for Bay of Plenty and Tasman, before representing the Crusaders on nine occasions and the Chiefs twice.
