Liam Bowron has signed a new deal with the ACT Brumbies, which will keep the Australia A squad member in the capital until the end of 2028. Bowron has risen through the ranks in Canberra, becoming an integral member of the Brumbies squad.

Bowron is a product of Marist College and the Brumbies pathway system, playing for the Australia U20 side at the 2023 World Rugby Junior World Championship. The front-rower started in two of five appearances for the Aussie side at the prestigious U20s tournament.

The hooker impressed for the Canberra Roys during the team’s title-winning campaign in the local John I Dent Cup, before making the step from Brumbies Academy into the top squad for the 2024 Super Rugby season.

Bowron played 20 minutes off the bench as a Brumbies debutant on May 2, 2024, in a 28-20 win over the Fijian Drua in Canberra. The proud Canberran made another five appearances during the second half of the season, including the quarter and semi-finals.

“This club means a lot to me. Growing up in Canberra, the Brumbies were always the team I looked up to, so getting the opportunity to continue here is something I’m incredibly grateful for,” Bowron said.

“We’ve got a really tight group and an environment that pushes you to improve every day. I feel like I’m developing my game here and there’s still a lot more growth in me.

“The support I’ve had from the Brumbies, my teammates, coaches and the Canberra rugby community has been massive throughout my career.

“To represent this region is something I never take for granted and I’m excited to keep giving everything I can for the Brumbies.”

Coach Stephen Larkham has named Bowron in the matchday 23 on 10 occasions over the last two seasons, including eight matches this season. Bowron scored a try off the pine in a famous upset win over the Crusaders in Christchurch during the early rounds of the campaign.

Bowron put in a season-high 40-minute shift away to the Drua in round five, before suiting up in other matches against the Chiefs, NSW Waratahs and Queensland Reds. The Brumbies are fifth on the Super Rugby Pacific ladder with only a few rounds left.

“Liam’s someone who has earned everything through hard work and consistency,” Larkham said.

“He’s developed into a tough, physical hooker who brings real energy to our forward pack, and you can see how much playing for the Brumbies means to him.

“We’re excited to see where he can take his game over the next few seasons.”

Director of Performance Cam Treloar added: “Liam’s the type of player who sets the tone with his work ethic and physicality.

“He’s a tough competitor, but he’s also someone who genuinely cares about the group and representing Canberra well. Keeping local players like Liam at the Brumbies is hugely important for our club and our culture.”
