Canada dealt blow as star wing ruled out of European WXV tour

Canada have confirmed that Alysha Corrigan will miss the European leg of the team’s WXV Global Series campaign with injury.

The wing has been a key performer for Kévin Rouet’s team in recent years. At Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, the 29-year-old was a scorer of four tries as the team finished as runners-up.

Last season in JAECOO Premiership Women’s Rugby, as the Prince Edward Island native helped Saracens to a league title, she scored 11 tries. Corrigan also beat 48 defenders, completed 22 line breaks and assisted five tries.

In 2025/26, Corrigan also spent periods of the season representing Canada in HSBC SVNS Series and HSBC SVNS World Championship competition. Last season, Canada finished fifth on the Series and third in the World Championship. Olivia Apps, Claire Gallagher and Asia Hogan-Rochester all split their time between 15-a-side rugby and rugby sevens last season.

Losing Corrigan is a blow for Canada. At 29, the wing can be regarded as one of the top-performing wings in women’s international rugby. Rouet and his staff do have undeniable quality in the form of Fancy Bermudez and Asia Hogan Rochester, Corrigan’s consistency will undoubtedly be missed. The North Americans can also be buoyed by Charity Williams’ try-scoring debut in her first Test match.

Canada started their WXV Global Series campaign with a 64-26 win against Scotland in Edinburgh. They will play the Red Roses this weekend at Exeter’s Sandy Park and then travel to France to face Les Bleues in La Rochelle.

It was confirmed that Corrigan will have her injury reassessed ahead of Canada’s home fixtures against England. In October, Canada will play Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 opponents England in Toronto and Ottawa.

Ticket sales for the fixture at Toronto’s BMO Field has already surpassed the previous record attendance for a standalone women’s rugby fixture in North America.
