Blues make a tactical change at fullback for Crusaders showdown
Zarn Sullivan will bring his monster boot to the Blues’ backfield in his side’s semi-final against the Crusaders this weekend.
The young fullback’s inclusion is the lone change to the starting XV that upset the Chiefs in the Qualifying Final over the weekend. Corey Evans, who started that game, is neither in the matchday 23 nor the injury list.
The reigning champions know they’re in for a tough contest, with a fraught history in Christchurch and especially the outgoing Apollo Projects Stadium, where the Crusaders are 30-0.
“It’s going to be a tough game, and we need to be as accurate as possible. There’s been good clarity this week, and the boys are up for it. We’re going to enjoy the contest,” head coach Vern Cotter said.
“We’re putting things together at the right time of the year. The guys know how to win big games, and that’s our goal again on Friday night.”

Hopefully, Barrett (right-footed) and Sullivan (LF) can work well together during kicking-plays; by viewing the field as ‘left’ and ‘right’ - they could easily swap roles throughout the game to make better use of angles with their respective stronger foots.
An immense game ahead. The Blues showed they are the real deal in beating the Chiefs. And away too.
They dominated territory 53% & possession 57%. Including 100% possession in last 10 minutes. They had 100% scrum win to Chiefs 80%. They had 89% lineout win to Chiefs 64%. Restarts received were 100% Blues to Chiefs 67%. They carried 144 times to 118 for Chiefs. These stats indicate a high level of detail & strong commitment to strategy.
The Chiefs beat us twice this season. Handily. Like the Blues we need to rise to our next level. Looking forward to a very exciting close game.
Strong team reckon game gonna be beaut I reckon ..big pressure on 9 an 10s for Saders not much experience JOC even in that as in when was last time he played in a “ test match “ type thing, AJ Lam and Reiko coukd really get into David and Ennor who aren’t the most physical midfield Codie is all time type dude Scooter is relentless this game hard to call but I am gonna go with Blues …BB creating more Blues midfield and wingers all athletic fast and physical to contain Saders weapons outside Forwards even each other out …I bleed yellow but go Blues respect Saders but nobody wants to see you win another title facts
Expect this match to be tight but Crusaders have the ammunition to see off the Blues who may well have used up their luck & fire power in scraping home against a Chiefs outfit not at their usual clinical best.
