Black Ferns player ratings v Scotland | WXV Global Series 2026

The Black Ferns continued their winning ways in the latest WXV Global Series action with a dominant 66-14 victory over Scotland at Edinburgh’s Hive Stadium.

A slick, accurate first half display saw six tries scored before another four were added after the break.

On a blustery day, errors did creep in at times but New Zealand were more than good value for their 10-try victory as the likes of Tara Turner and Layla Sae led the way to a comfortable victory.

Here’s how the Black Ferns rated…

15. Braxton Sorensen-McGee – 7
Influential in general play when swapping first-receiver duties with Hannah King. At times excellent distribution. Made an impressive line break early in the second half to boot. Two blemishes: missed place kicks on a blustery afternoon and an intercept that ultimately led to a Scottish score.

14. Justine McGregor – 8
Happy to get involved off her wing looking for work. Played her part in a slick backline display that saw the ball moved from one runner to the next with speed and accuracy. A few big shots in defence. Was gifted a straightforward finish for her try. Gifted Saili a late score when she was certain to cross herself.

13. Amy Du Plessis – 7
Good support line for her score under the posts. Had a few difficult moments of communication with centre partner Saili that led to Scottish breaks. Stayed wide when she should have bitten in on the runner in the build-up to one score but we’re clutching at straws when looking for too many negatives.

12. Alena Saili – 7
Another strong display in attack, part of an all-round skilful backline performance. One bad missed tackle in the second half that led to a rare Scottish break. Finished the game with an easy score.

11. Shyrah Tuliau-Tua’a – 8
Like her wing colleague, was more than happy to hunt for work infield. Her assist for King’s try was a beauty, throwing a beautiful fend to get on the outside before delaying the pass to draw in the last defender.

10. Hannah King – 8
An easy day for an out-half when dealing with quick ball against a retreating defence. Still, she made a series of good decisions when distributing. Offered a carrying threat herself while showing some robust defensive solidity.

9. Tara Turner – 9
Hard to choose between Turner and Layla Sae for best player on the park. Turner’s speed, both to the breakdown and with her passing from the base, was something to behold. That tempo ran Scotland off the park. Accurate passing in blustery conditions and took a deserved score with a trail line off Sae.

1. Maddison Robinson – 7
A quiet but solid display. Lacked the highlight carries of her propping colleagues but locked down the scrum well.

2. Georgia Ponsonby – 7
Busy around the park on both sides of the ball. Few headline impacts but played an instrumental role linking play after a pair of line breaks that killed any hopes of a Scotland comeback early in the second half.

3. Mo’omo’oga Palu – 7
Looked a cheat code when scoring the first try of the day, rumbling through a tackle to cross from over 10m out. Was quiet thereafter but popped up early in the second half with a deft offload for a try assist.

4. Maama Mo’onia Vaipulu – 8
Took her close range try well. Also picked a good line to burst through before offloading to du Plessis for her score under the sticks. Disruptive in defence while leading her team’s tackle count – solid all-round display.

5. Maiakawanakaulani Roos – 8
Strong in the carry, deft when linking play and caused havoc in her fair share of breakdowns. The quintessential strong display for a lock forward.

6. Layla Sae – 9
Outstanding. Two try assists and just as many tries, her finish for the second showing off her athleticism. She could easily have the strongest fend in the international game at the moment. Difficult to have more of a positive impact on a game.

7. Elinor-Plum King – 8
Good jackal skills at times while she was rewarded for running a good trail line when taking a scoring pass from Tuliau-Tua’a. Given the speed put on the Black Ferns attack, the back row was asked to be everywhere to secure possession on the floor. Did that job well.

8. Mia Anderson – 8.5
A series of heavy shots in defence. Part of an all-round excellent display in attack from the Black Ferns back row. Will be annoyed she was carried through under the posts for a Scottish score but it was a rare blemish.

Replacements – 8
Amarante Sititi scored with virtually her first carry in an impactful start to her second half cameo. Ngano Tavake earned a very popular scrum penalty in her first set-piece on debut. Veisinia Mahutariki-Fakalelu was everywhere in defence, smashing navy jerseys at will.
