Top 14 club Bayonne have confirmed the signing of Northampton Saints second-row Alex Moon, who has signed for the next two seasons.

Moon, aged 27, has contributed to Northampton’s rise to the top of the league in England this season and their progression to the Investec Champions Cup round of 16, participating in all four pool games.

The 6’7, 123kg lock has been with Saints for over eight seasons.

The growing appeal of France’s top-flight rugby competition is evident with recent high-profile signings like Owen Farrell to Racing 92 and the anticipated acquisition of England tighthead Kyle Sinckler by Toulon.

Moon, a product of St Joseph’s College and Sedbergh School, progressed from the Saints Academy to make his first-team debut in 2016.

He soon became a Premiership regular and won consecutive Premiership Rugby Shields in 2017 and 2018. The 2018/19 season marked his breakthrough with 18 appearances and a key role in Saints’ Premiership Rugby Cup victory. His performances, including scoring against Clermont, secured him a senior contract and an England summer training camp invite in 2020 after 20 appearances the prior season.
