All Blacks provide injury update on Jordie Barrett and Will Jordan
The All Blacks will likely be without both Will Jordan and Jordie Barrett in their Nations Championship clash with Wales next weekend in Cardiff, after the pair picked up injuries at Murrayfield against Scotland.
Jordan left the field early in the second half with what looked to be a hamstring injury, while Barrett failed his HIA assessment after a nasty clash with Blair Kinghorn’s shoulder.
The backline duo will be in a race against the clock to be fit for the All Blacks’ Nations Championship fixture against Wales, as they head to Cardiff to prepare for the second contest of their four-week Northern Tour.
Rennie’s side kept Gregor Townsend’s Scotland scoreless in the second half at Murrayfield, after gifting the home side too many opportunities in the first half.
Edinburgh Rugby hooker Ewan Ashman scored a first-half hat-trick, which gave the hosts hope, but they were unable to convert limited second-half opportunities to get themselves back in the contest.
Barrett was influential in his second-half stint, but Rennie confirmed that his Murrayfield appearance would likely be his last for the next few weeks.
“Jordie failed his HIA, so yeah, not sure whether he’ll be available this week, but we’ll get a bit of clarity,” the All Blacks head coach said post-match.
Jordan, on the other hand, could miss his first Test with the All Blacks under Rennie next weekend, as he walked across the field gingerly.
Rennie provided a brief update on the All Blacks’ leading all-time try-scorer.
“Yeah, it was [a hamstring]. He might have tweaked a hamstring. We’ll assess that, and I’m not sure of the severity of it.”
All Blacks captain Codie Taylor was visibly emotional post-match, where he addressed how proud he is of the group during tough circumstances for the players and the management.
“Yep, we wanted to win for him [Logan Cadwallader]. Like I said earlier, this week’s been a lot bigger than rugby. It’s about acknowledging one of our brothers who had fallen, a husband, father, son, who was highly respected in our group.
“To be able to go out there tonight and get the result, I know there was a lot of emotion in the anthem and looking across to the management, how much they were feeling it as well. So there was definitely a bit more of a motivation there to front up in the jersey and represent him.”
