Two All Blacks to be flown home ahead of Argentina rematch
The All Blacks have confirmed that Patrick Tuipulotu and Anton Lienert-Brown will miss the second Test against Argentina after suffering serious injuries in Cordoba, and will travel home to New Zealand on Wednesday morning (NZT).
Lock Tuipulotu was admitted to hospital for monitoring after the game and Robertson confirmed his absence will be felt for awhile with the rest of the Rugby Championship uncertain.
“Patty is unfortunate, he’s had a tough run (with injuries). His value on and off the field is a great presence, he makes great decisions, his lineout calling is invaluable,” said Robertson.
“We’ve got options, we’ve got Josh Lord here, Samipeni (Finau) can play six and cover lock. We’ve got the depth.”
Midfielder Lienert-Brown’s cameo from the bench didn’t last long as he was sent from the field after a misguided tackle attempt.
He has been ruled out of this week’s game and will follow HIA protocols, but is expected to be available for the Springboks Test at Eden Park on September 6.
Lienert-Brown’s injury opens the door for many options in the No.23 jersey, if Robertson wants an outside back or midfield cover.
In positive news, Breakthrough Player of the Year Wallace Sititi and loosehead prop Tamaiti Williams are expected back from injuries to boost the forward pack.
“The load on Tamaiti and the running metres for Wallace have been really critical, obviously they’ve got managed minutes and aren’t going to go 80.
“I mean they could, but that’s not optimal when they first come back. But they’re fit and healthy.”
