15 Wallabies headline Brumbies squad as club legend closes in on history

Allan Alaalatoa is just two appearances away from becoming the all-time appearance leader for the ACT Brumbies, with the veteran prop among the 15 Wallabies named in the club’s squad for the 2027 Super Rugby Pacific season.

Alaalatoa is just a couple of appearances away from breaking Ben Alexander’s club record of 154 matches. The 32-year-old made six appearances last season, including a start away to eventual champions the Hurricanes in the playoffs.

Seven props have been named in the Brumbies squad for next season, with James Slipper going around for another campaign. ‘Slips’ broke Wyatt Crockett’s long-standing appearance record in Super Rugby last season and is set to add to that tally.

Coach Stephen Larkham has selected a familiar squad which boasts extensive experience across the board, with a combined 1,686 Super Rugby appearances between the 35 players. It’s a group that includes some notable additions too, including electric utility back Triston Reilly

Reilly captained the First Nations & Pasifika XV against a Tonga President’s XV earlier this year, and has made the move down from the NSW Waratahs to the capital. Leafi Talataina, TJ Talaileva and Aiden Stait have also signed on with the Brums for 2027.

Former Australia Sevens representative Kye Oates debuted for the Brumbies last season, but had his rookie campaign cut short due to injury. But the club announced this week that Oates had put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension through to the end of 2028.

Uncapped Wallabies prospect Toby Macpherson, who was part of the top squad for the Bledisloe Cup series and is now with Australia A, is part of a five-player contingent of locks, along with Nick Frost, Lachie Shaw, Harvey Cordukes and Stait.

Rob Valetini is one of six loose forwards, with capped Wallaby Charlie Cale another. Rory Scott, Eli Langi, Talataina and Talaileva are the others. In the backs, Ryan Lonergan, Declan Meredith, Tom Wright and Corey Toole are the capped Wallabies.

But there is another Australian international in the centres, and it’s a significant inclusion for the Brums going into the new season. 2025 John Eales Medal (Wallabies Player of the Year) Len Ikitau is back after spending the 2025/26 PREM Rugby season with the Exeter Chiefs.
