Switzerland Rugby

The history of the Switzerland rugby team dates back to 1973, when the country played in its first ever international. They lost their opening match against Portugal and also lost every other match they played in throughout the 1970s, except for two.

However, the Switzerland team showed great promise in the early 1980s, defeating Luxembourg, Denmark and Finland. But, the team then went winless between 1982 and 1985, before defeating Serbia-Montenegro 5–0 in May 1986. Following this, throughout the 1990s, the team primarily attempted to qualify for the Rugby World Cup. However, they failed to do so on each occasion.

Since the 2000s, the Switzerland rugby team has bounced between the second and third division of European rugby. However, in 2024-25, the team qualified for the Rugby Europe Championship for the first time. This is the level of European rugby that sits just below the Six Nations Championship.

Today, the Switzerland rugby squad is as strong as ever and is packed with young talent. See if the side can maintain its status in the Rugby Europe Championship with RugbyPass.
