History of Stade Français
The original Stade Français team was founded back in 1883. However, the team we know today was actually formed in 1995, when the rugby sections of Stade Français and Club Athlétique des Sports Généraux merged.
Since the turn of the millennium, the Stade Français rugby team has been a dominant force, winning five French Championship/Top 14 titles, as well as one European Rugby Challenge Cup (2017). Added to this, the team reached the final of the Heineken Cup/European Rugby Champions Cup in both 2001 and 2005, and also reached the final of the European Rugby Challenge Cup in both 2011 and 2013.
That said, despite winning the French Championship four times between 2000 and 2007, Stade Français have only won one title since: 2015.
Over the years, several notable names have appeared in the Stade Français rugby squad, including international stars such as James Haskell, Mirco Bergamasco and Will Genia. In addition, a host of former French stars have also been in the Stade Français rugby squad, including the likes of Mathieu Bastareaud, Christophe Dominici and Fabien Galthié.
