The World Sevens Series makes its way to Cape Town and the Late Tackle team are so excited that they are giving away tickets to watch the fastest form of the game live!

 

In the spirit of Sevens, former England Sevens player Mat Turner joins the team on the couch to share some interesting behind-the-scenes stories – what happens in Vegas, ends up on Late Tackle.

 

Don’t worry Springbok fans, Howie, Anton and Morgan have not forgotten about THAT defeat to Wales and there is a potential solution to the eligibility rule concerning the Pacific Islands.

I would've agreed with you once upon a time about everything you said. But I don't think so anymore. Lolo isn't demonstrably better than Donno or Meredith and HMP is yet to start.

Skelton creates a different sort of game plan to that which they're running quite successfully at the moment so I wouldn't change that right now even if we could.

When I looked at the Aus team to play SA I had the same thought, suddenly alot of “new” players werent very new at all. It is a side building nicely and if they can maintain consistency they will be in the sweet spot in terms of experience and age, this is a good youthful team. So physically and experience wise they should be prepared. This is a nice thought but what the team needs now is belief, consistency and cohesion. That can only be built with important wins, coaches willing to invest in players and the team environment. Kiss has selected well so far and has got some wins but you almost feel as though they have to win at least one of these Bledisloe tests just to build that belief. Wins against South Africa have never been a Wallabies problem. Wins against the All Blacks have recently become as impossible to acquire as yesterdays time. When the Boks went on to win the world cup in 2019 they cited the win in Wellington as the one that built the belief they needed to know they could beat the best in the world. The same could be true for these Wallabies. If they go on to lose the group match against NZ next year they will be in the somewhat easier side of the draw which would give them a more feasible route to the final. The stars do seem to be aligning but now is the time when they need to turn promise into wins.

Realistically, the WBs have been good under the high ball for ONE game. They lost it against fra, ire, and arg x2 this year. It is also an area the ABs usually dominate historically. Not saying they can’t win it, just that i’m not locking it in as guys like ratima, mckenzie and w jordan are all class. Its also dependent on someone like suaalii being picked on the wing again who may have to shift back into centre given injuries.

That’s why it's not the greatest rivalry in rugby despite being one of the longest running bilateral trophies that’s still competed for.

Any contest between Australia and New Zealand should have the same flavour as an England versus France, or Ireland/ Scotland/Wales versus England.

Of course he does. Those had nothing to do with his position and all to do with the setup. Think it was also Aaron Cruden on the Breakdown that backed me up.

When you actually look at the play the are also all from midfield orientation, he is not receiving wipers kicks on the wing, like say Jorgensen does.

.. many changes but all frontline Boks - Ox, Marx, TdT, Lood, Nortje, Kolisi, PSDT, Wiese, Louw, Snyman, Kwagga upfront .. vastly different team to Perth.

Yes I watched the game and agree with you, but I said we have an abundance of attacking threats, Jorgo, Wright, Ikitau, JAS, (Petaia if he plays) etc. Yeah I commented on another article that our line-speed was better and it put the Boks under pressure, but this has not been the typical pattern. I hope they can build on it in the Bledisloe series, as the AB’s typically do not play well against teams that apply pressure in defence. They need time and space to get their ball handling right, otherwise, we see a lot of dropped ball from the AB’s and a very disjointed attack.

Three takeaways from the 2026 Super Rugby AUS competiton

Marky Mark will be one of the first picked, he has been unbelievable and in areas directly transferrable back to modern rugby: dominance in the air, creating space that doesn’t exist (the stutter step!) and pace

Kurtley was carving in a 3rd tier comp but still can’t pass distance left to right. He had to turn his back to the defense to make one long pass

He hasn’t changed since he was with Razor and Foster. Another media brief with nothing concrete and whole lot of platitudes that say nothing. He seems to be out of his depth and I think Rennie needs to get an actual expert from overseas. Maybe see if he can get a French or SA scrum coach in as even their provincial and clubs are better at scrummaging than the ABs are at the moment.

The three top performers from round ten of the Hilux NPC

I think the Wellington “Party Starter” coach might be looking for a new job. That was a very poor season and while he can point to injuries and players leaving, he also needs to take responsibility for the poor performances. I’m sure he’s gutted and has done his best, but those results just aren’t acceptable.
