The Waratahs have suspended lock Miles Amatosero for four games due to what the team is describing as a training “incident”.

A report from the Sydney Morning Herald claimed new Waratah Angus Scott-Young was left with a fractured eye socket after Amatosero struck him a handful of times during training.

The Waratahs have presented an option that would reduce Amatosero’s ban to two games, ruling him out only for the two upcoming preseason games.

“Rugby Australia and the NSW Waratahs confirm that Miles Amatosero has been suspended for four games following a formal review into a training ground incident earlier this month,” a statement said on Saturday.

“Amatosero can reduce his suspension to two games upon successful completion of counselling and education programs.

“He will miss the Waratahs’ upcoming trial matches against the Reds and Brumbies.”

The Tahs host three home games to start the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season, with visits from the Reds and Drua before a bye week in round three and then a visit from the Hurricanes in round four.

Amatosero, 23, joined the Waratahs in 2024 after three seasons with Clermont in the Top 14, where he amassed 31 caps with 10 starts.

From the video that circulating, it’s more like assault than a training incident. But they need some toughness the Tahs so maybe it will translate to the field.
