The 30-year-old prop returns to the starting line-up to hit her half century of Test caps as Azzurre head coach Fabio Roselli has made five changes to his starting side.

In the pack this includes giving Vittoria Zanette a starting berth at tighthead prop and Giordana Duca moves into the second row to partner Valeria Fedrighi.

Elsewhere there has been a reshuffle in the back-line. Veronica Madia is handed the keys to fly-half and will partner the vastly experienced scrum-half Sofia Stefan, while Michela Sillari is named to partner Sara Mannini in the midfield. Alyssa D’Inca is moved to the wing and Gaia Buso drops out of the squad.

Sofia Stefan told Italy Rugby: “Within the group, there’s a real hunger and a strong desire to prove – and to prove to ourselves, even more than to others – our worth and what we want to achieve. We can’t let a single match define us, even if we made a lot of mistakes in this match.

“Precisely for this reason, I believe the key to this match will be consistency, both physically and in our ability to make the right tactical decisions, and we know we can be consistent. In these first two matches, there have been moments when we conceded a lot in a short time, but also moments when we played our game and responded well.

“Scotland are a very strong team in close contact, and we’re working on a strategy that can put them under pressure, deconstructing them a bit to speed up the game and create opportunities to capitalise on.”
