Tevita Mafileo replaced in All Blacks squad after training injury

There’s some movement in the All Blacks squad ahead of the team’s final Test of 2025 against Wales in Cardiff.

Uncapped prop Tevita Mafileo has been diagnosed with a rib fracture, ruling him out of the Cardiff clash. Mafileo’s injury paves the way for All Blacks XV standout George Dyer to join the top squad.

The 26-year-old has impressed in consecutive All Blacks XV tours, earning special praise from defence coach Cory Jane when the former All Blacks finisher was asked for a standout of the 2025 tour last week.

“I’ll just name one person, and this is going to be well out of the gate. It’s George Dyer. He’s been awesome,” Jane responded on Sport Nation.

“We had him last year, but somebody who just goes hard, wants to learn; the amount of questions he’s had for me on the defence side of things and just different tackles and different places you can get into position, to hear that from a front rower, mate, it’s cool. He really wants to be good.

“So, he’s one guy that has stood out to me and been awesome.”

Dyer is joined by versatile forward Devan Flanders, who has come into the All Blacks as cover for Fabian Holland, while the newly crowned World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year nominee is recovering from an illness that ruled him out of the weekend’s England loss.

Finally, Christian Lio-Willie will remain with the All Blacks as cover for both Samipeni Finau (personal) and Luke Jacobson (injury), who both flew home to New Zealand last week.

Bath player ratings vs Toulon | Investec Champions Cup

It was very tight. When Bath brought on their 6 man bomb squad and immediately scored they looked unstoppable but Toulon had to put a couple of tries out of the bag to stay ahead. Bath looked very good and semi final standard, at least I would reckon if they can top the group.

Bath player ratings vs Toulon | Investec Champions Cup

Great match. Nip and tuck all the way. Toulon were up against it and just kept their noses in front. With a 4 point lead into the final minute they took a penalty to get a maul try. This denied Bath the extra bonus point (Bath already had 4 tries) which could be crucial when deciding who wins the group and the associated home advantage. Classic European heavyweight encounter.

I think one of the things we are seeing is how well the youngsters are prepared at an early age to come through the pathways, so we are suddenly seeing an influx of players that come from nowhere and are absolute stardust like KLA, LBB, Pollock & Calouri etc.

The speed they are coming through various countries development system are getting quicker and quicker. I think Calouri has only played 12 games of Men’s Senior rugby and I genuinely think they may put him in the 6 Nations squad at 19 years of age (but his skill base is that high).

I need to check out Calouri, I’ve seen a lot of excitement around him! Won’t make anyone’s lives easier by the sounds of it.

Theres a guy in NZ called Taumoifalau that we’ll need to kick on to stand a chance. (Don’t mean to always make things about NZ just thought you’d like the tip)

I have to say, I think Lee Blackett has a tough job on his hands picking that matchday 23 back line when all the players are available. We basically have 2 different backlines playing two different styles, so will depend which one they prefer and then any individual additions they want to add.

Slightly off topic but I watched Glasgow vs Toulouse and I couldn’t help but think how good Jack Willis, Tom Curry & Ben Earl would be for England.

Jack Willis has really developed as a player at Toulouse and is a much better player than when he left. I also watched the Durban Sharks vs Saracens and they really struggled to deal with Jack Willis and his carrying, these really are two options that ENG are missing out on when it comes to RWC 2027 selection.

I think he would be perfect in the PREM, especially where he gets to set the culture/environment from the beginning and would almost be the ideal person for Red Bull as they look to build a platform for the future.

Spot on - he has become too predictable and there isn’t enough variety in his decision making whilst trying to play the Quins way with the players they have available.

It’s hard to see how that will change with Quins in the short term and I struggle to see which team could take him as a marquee player and provide the forward platform he needs (Leicester maybe) but then you are talking La Rochelle or the next wave of Racing 92, which means his International career is done (in order to improve). Very tricky balance to see the outcome on this one.

If I were the current incumbent wingers and was seeing both Noah Calouri & Tyler Offiah coming through, I would be very concerned for how long I can retain that shirt.

Whilst Calouri is the better of the two, they are almost clones, same age, similar height, similar style and both play with those fearless overhead catching ability and are super strong aerially.

Great post Toko and absolutely spot on.

The only thing I would say, when you see potential of players like Noah Calouri and Tyler Offiah, ENG already have the next wave of wingers coming through who do items 1 & 2 far better than the current incumbents, so it’s only going to get harder to contest in those areas.

This is a good reminder that Furbank was looking locked in at 15 for England 2 years ago. He was very good on their tour to NZ if I remember right.

The blocking law change has created a bit of a renaissance for Steward though. I think (read: hope) either AUS or NZ can come up with a system to counter the aerial assault. It’s a tricky thing though, I’m thinking something like a combination of:
