Some big names will be back in gold for this weekend’s inaugural New York SVNS event, with Teagan Levi headlining the returnees alongside Alysia Lefau-Fakaosilea, who is set to make her long-awaited return after more than two years of injury troubles.

The pair are joined by Kaitlin Shave as the big additions for the women’s team, with coach Tim Walsh continuing his rotation policy in the back-end of the 2025/26 season. Mackenzie Davis, Bridget Clark and Kiiahla Duff are the three players to rotate out of the squad and return home.

The women were pipped at the post by arch-rivals New Zealand in Vancouver over the weekend, and sit second on the series ladder after six events.

“We are tracking well despite not getting the win we desired in Vancouver,” Australia Sevens Women’s coach Tim Walsh said.

“We’re continuing to rotate our squad with Alysia Lefau-Fakaosilea returning from long-term injuries plus Teagan Levi and Kaitlin Shave re-joining the team to bolster the squad.

“We are looking to finish the regular series off with the paradox of detail providing consistency whilst challenging athletes to explore their skillsets and strategies.”

The men, who have named an unchanged squad for the New York event, sit fourth and closed the gap on their trans-Tasman rivals, New Zealand, who sit third, with a fourth-place finish in Vancouver.

“The team were pleased with their overall Day 1 performance but then bitterly disappointed with their Day 2 results,” Australia Sevens Men’s coach Liam Barry said.

“We thought we had enough chances in our semi-final to win the game but our execution and added to a couple of critical decisions that went against us.

“Unfortunately we took this frustration into the third-place playoff and lacked discipline which is not how we play.

“We are all very excited that we are heading to New York for the first time and will look to improve in this weekend’s performances.”
