Taniela Tupou won’t face Fiji after being pulled from the Wallabies camp for an early test against the British & Irish Lions.

The NSW Waratahs will benefit from the 58-Test prop’s presence on Saturday in Sydney, the second Lions fixture of the week following their clash with the Queensland Reds in Brisbane.

Australia play Fiji in Newcastle on Sunday, coach Joe Schmidt on Monday releasing Tupou after including him in the wider Test squad last week.

The off-contract Tupou, reportedly set for a club move to France, did not hit his straps for the Waratahs this season but at his best would be a crucial piece of the Wallabies’ pack to take on the Lions.

He’ll get his chance to make an early statement on Saturday before Schmidt refines his squad for the three-Test Lions series beginning in Brisbane on July 19.

There is a big difference between Super Rugby and Top14. That’s why one of them is the best championship while the over is clearly not. Top14 is longer, harder, and protecting players is a necessity, even without a WC year. Top14 players are playing too much. Far too much. Hell, Top14 (more intense than others championships and longer), useless ChCups we tend to win at en heavy price (winning both Top14 and ChCup is a nightmare), November/Summer series, 6 Nations we tend to win too, final phases of top14… Ain't the case in Super Rugby. + Not playing for a long time is also having negative consequences. It's not because France did what they did recently that it’s useful for other nations to follow. We did that because in OUR situation it’s beneficial to do so. It doesn’t mean everyone on the planet is in the same situation. Of course Roigard should be cautious (like everyone). And his club should take care of him (idk but burning an international player seems quite stupid, and I bet the Canes are not). But stop playing for a while ? That’s more than stupid.

PS : one exemple in France, Louis Bielle Biarrey. He wants to play the Olympics and the World Cup. He signed again this summer. That was difficult. I bet that in the negociations it was said he would not be playing too much top14 or CC to compete both RWC and Olympics. Meaning Union Bordeaux Bègles will not have one of their best weapons for most of this season. Not that he will not play at all…

As an Englishman believe me I too feel the Taylor Swift comment is ridiculous and I'm sure the small minority of English people who actually know who he is feel the same. That said, David Flatman is a legend and usually has brilliant insights so I'll let him off.

You could be changing the likelyhood by as much as 10% and as little as 1 or 2% managed with kid gloves.

Roigard is one of those players that can just fire all the time without rugby though, but I’d like him to develop another years worth on his potential.

All good points Ben but Roigard is very raw playing his version of a Dupont running playmaker game, he needs far more time in the saddle.

He’s tough too, perhaps most top ABs will only play 2 or 3 of those 7 tests next year.

These type of ideas have led to fewer people attending and watching domestic rugby in NZ. The rot for this aspect really starts in 2007 when the ABs were absent for half of the comp when Henry wanted them out of the comp all together for the world cup that ended in a quarter final exit. People get the message this is not important so they will not spend the money.
