Taniela Tupou cited for potential foul play against Brumbies

Wallabies prop Taniela Tupou has been cited for alleged dangerous play in the Queensland Reds’ Super Rugby Pacific loss to the Brumbies on Friday night.

Commentators felt Tupou effected a perfect clean-out at a ruck but SANZAR’s citing commissioner deemed the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.

Tupou’s case will be heard via video conference by the foul play review committee on Monday night.

He is facing a one-match suspension if found guilty and could miss Saturday night’s clash with the NSW Waratahs in Brisbane.

There are other vital elements in a top winger: sound defence (closely allied to intuitive positioning), kicking skills, preferably with either foot, and an instinctive ability to link with the other 2 of the back 3.

Big question: will JM feel the need to experiment (CMM is nearing 30) or stick to the player who's already proved herself?

Yes, it doesn’t change the overall style but will certainly give them more depth & consistency for the number of games they are having to manage and the ability to manage injuries.

Whilst UBB have been up there for a few seasons, I do wonder how much more confidence and assurance they will play with and we will likely see them at their best this year and next.

JLDP is prob a like for like with Guido Petti, and they will likely play him at 4 as much as they do 6. They already have big carrying guys like Matiu and Gazzotti and BVT and now Willis so he’ll be a swingman for them.

The other aspect is that McCall is a DoR type who doesn’t do tracksuit coaching, so he’d be starting from scratch there. I think that is what may have held Rob Baxter back too?

World Rugby also have to make the Garyowen a contest. I wasn’t a fan of the blatant blockers practically being a ‘Stationary Wall’ but in removing any ‘blockers’ it has technically turned it too much the other way into a 15v1 contest where the defending team basically has to catch the ball while the chasing team are allowed to slap it backwards. Perhaps make it only a 1v1. If there is no 1v1 contest then it is 15 Chasers ready to flatten/muller the Defender who catches the ball. It is almost an ‘intentional’ mugging.

Some of the Chasers are now also jumping into the contest with their back to the opposition which is like jumping across the line at a Line-out. How can the chaser have due-diligence to their opponent if they jump into them with their backs turned?
