Signed up for more: Black Ferns Sevens skipper commits until 2028
Black Ferns Sevens skipper Risi Pouri-Lane has re-signed with New Zealand Rugby until 2028.
The 25-year-old is the second re-signing that the Black Ferns have announced, having tied down Manaia Nuku until the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles also.
After four stops of the HSBC SVNS Series seasons Pouri-Lane and her team currently top the overall standings and have picked up tournament wins in Dubai, Singapore and Perth.
The youngest ever full-time contracted Black Ferns Sevens player as a 17-year-old, Pouri-Lane has won two Olympic gold medals and a Commonwealth Games gold in 2018.
Last year she took part in the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup and started four matches at the tournament as the squad finished third overall in England.
Her re-signing with New Zealand Rugby comes immediately after the union and the New Zealand Rugby Players Association agreed a new three-year agreement for professional rugby in the country.
This has included an expansion of medical, life and trauma insurance, and players receiving 36.56 per cent of player-generated revenue over the period.
With a recent player drain in New Zealand, the new collaborative agreement has seen an increase in annual investment for player retention, development, education, financial planning and player health and safety.
The New Zealand Rugby Players Association’s Chief Executive said:
“This partnership is a powerful and progressive agreement and delivers significant investment in the personal development and education, retention and long-term support of our professional players. It will position us well in a constantly evolving and competitive landscape.”
