Sean Everitt settles uncertainty over his future with new deal

Edinburgh have received a boost ahead of their top-of-the-table Investec Champions Cup clash with Bath at The Rec on Friday night, with head coach Sean Everitt signing a new two-year deal.

The South African will now remain at the helm of the capital club until the conclusion of the 2027/28 season.

Everitt’s decision comes after much speculation about his future, given he was in the final six months of his Edinburgh contract.

“I am incredibly proud to extend terms with Edinburgh Rugby,” he said.

“I have loved the challenge of bringing through the next crop of young Scottish talent and seeing them grow in this environment.

“I firmly believe that with patience and work, this team can truly inspire the city. Our motto of ‘local players becoming legends’ is something we live by, and I am excited to see what we can achieve with this next generation of Edinburgh players.”

Now in his third year at Hive Stadium, Everitt has overseen the club’s return to the Investec Champions Cup and a place in last season’s United Rugby Championship play-offs for the first time since 2021/22.

Following back-to-back wins to open 2026 after a slow start to the season, injury-hit Edinburgh currently sit second to Bath in their Champions Cup pool and 10th in the URC table. They are unbeaten at Hive Stadium.

Everitt, who guided the club to the semi-finals of the EPCR Challenge Cup in 2024/25, arrived at Edinburgh in the summer of 2023 after 15 years at the Hollywoodbets Sharks.

Scottish Rugby Performance Director David Nucifora said: “We are delighted to confirm Sean Everitt’s extension as Head Coach of Edinburgh Rugby.

“In our recent discussions, it was clear that we share a vision for building on the strong foundations Sean has laid to date. Scottish Rugby will continue to build strong alignment with Sean and Edinburgh Rugby so that the team can reach its full potential.

“We are particularly focused on accelerating the development of Edinburgh’s exciting crop of young Scottish players who in recent times have shown their ability to compete at this level of the game.”
