Scotland player ratings vs Fiji | 2025 Summer tour
Scotland player ratings: Gregor Townsend’s men were outmuscled and outpaced 29-14 by a rampant Fiji side in Suva, with a high penalty count, three yellow cards and a red ultimately proving costly.
Here’s how the Scottish players rated.
15. Kyle Rowe – 5.5
Took his early try superbly, slicing through off a lineout move. Defensively had to work hard under immense pressure, especially aerially, but was one of the few who posed any threat with ball in hand.
14. Darcy Graham – 4
Two yellow cards, the second upgraded to red, bookended a frustrating afternoon. First infringement was marginal but the second, for an offside intercept metres from the line, killed the game. Injured his finger in the process.
13. Cam Redpath – 6
Never stopped tackling and did well to help prevent a certain try in tandem with Burke. Carried hard and often but didn’t have much space to operate in.
12. Tom Jordan – 7
Took his try well after supporting Ashman’s burst and was involved in some combative midfield defence. Penalised for offside before Fiji’s second try, but showed flashes of creativity.
11. Kyle Steyn – 5
Struggled to make an impact in attack and spent long spells chasing shadows. A hard-working shift defensively but couldn’t shift the momentum.
10. Fergus Burke – 7
Slotted both conversions and played a part in some key last-ditch tackles. Very lucky not to see yellow for killing the ball but otherwise showed maturity and intent in difficult circumstances.
9. Jamie Dobie – 5.5
Showed sharp service and good awareness in setting up Scotland’s second try, but his impact faded as Fiji turned the screw. Replaced before the hour.
1. Rory Sutherland – 6
Scrummaged solidly in a rare area of Scottish dominance, but couldn’t influence proceedings beyond the set piece.
2. Ewan Ashman – 5
Yellow carded for slowing down ball on his own line. Made amends somewhat with a line break that helped set up Jordan’s try. A mixed bag.
3. Elliot Millar Mills – 6
Helped Scotland gain the upper hand in the scrum but was largely anonymous around the park.
4. Max Sykes – 5
Struggled to impose himself physically. Carried a few times but failed to dent the Fijian defence.
5. Grant Gilchrist – 6
Scotland needed more leadership from their most experienced forward. A few decent maul involvements but discipline and composure were lacking in key moments.
6. Jamie Ritchie – 5
Forced off early with a foot injury after briefly returning to the field. Couldn’t impact the game and his absence told.
7. Rory Darge – 7
One of Scotland’s better performers. Made several key tackles and turnovers but was often fighting a losing battle at the breakdown.
8. Matt Fagerson – 5
Another who struggled to match Fiji’s power and pace. Injured the same ankle that plagued him last season and was a peripheral figure before coming off.
Replacements – 5.5
Ashman’s sin-bin meant replacement George Turner was on early and carried with some urgency. Hastings couldn’t turn the tide late on. Horne and Hepburn brought some tempo, but Scotland’s final-quarter possession never really looked like yielding points. Defensively, subs were left scrambling as Fiji poured forward in the final 20.
