And your point is well taken. I would think that being forced into a straitjacket by excessive criticism - whether directed at style of play or perceived general disposition - is just as counterproductive to genuine development as being over-hyped.

Have a look back at the French series, I think it was game two, and maybe 3, where they seemed to be making a conscious decision to offload in the tackle. Pre-emptively offloading you could say.

Interest for me is Sevu 1.79m defending Noah 1.94m…best options are don't let him get the ball and tackling around his ankles is the only way to stop him but he can still offload if he's that good…

Nothing against Sevu, I see his value especially round the tackle and ruck and from Social looks a great squad member but with such emphasis on kick contest these days Fihaki for me is a no brainer should be in squad he is elite under high ball is fast big tall agile skilled and gotta cannon boot tbh I would probably have him starting at 14 even with Carter going so well

Or skills coach (Holland). They just don’t have the mojo to execute in those circumstances. Look at that first example with Jordan, all he needs to do is step inside Sheehan and it’s a try, or run at those two guys and just pass the ball to Clarke in space, and it’s a try.

That’s why Lester has been so good, he has confidence. Not wanting to knock and stereo the small white guy, but you look at the two Barrett examples, afraid to hit the ball up and sprawling on the ground and told to get up and continue by the medical staff, and you can see where this fear is built from within the team.

Yes Sititi was excellent against Ireland.

Sititi, Cane and Savea was very well balanced last year. It'll be interesting to see how Cane's workload is shared out. Probably Holland will do some of it!

The officiating was atrocious on the weekend. I’m not ref blaming or putting individuals out there, I’m talking about everything from tracking time properly to appointing the right people for a game. When New Zealand did play quickly from a touch finder, the touchie would stop play by saying “ah ah, it went 5 meters out further down the field here. Jordan took a ball that crossed the line halfway between the half way and 10 (40) meter line, and Taylor was throwing in on the 10 meter line. It happened numerous times during the game and they were off by more than 5 meters on occasion. Like WTF is going on? Was the touchie doing a Pollock and watching the game on the big screen only to loose his depth perception and get it wrong?

Having just ripped into the good guys myself, I’m going to say this article is way off the mark bring in the conspiracy stories of Irelands demise. Ireland have looked to evolve from their sweeping attacks, it’s as simple as that. I don’t know why, it wasn’t good enough when it matter, but I hope Farrell and his provinces will see the light and return to using their highly coordinated attack. Only really two players have gone past their used by date in that respect, and that is Sexton and Aki. Two greats for sure, but they still have what it takes, right now, if they want to start delivering again (obviously isn’t going to be immediate). Aside from their level of performance right now, looking to 2027 is what is really going to be difficult, with nearly 10 top top players unlikely to be better than the next guy (if there were to give them a chance from right now).

Marcus Smith one of seven changes for England with new captain named

CCS does offer a harder carry, more ballast in scrum and maul and a 4th jumper with Pepper. I think the plan maybe to go after the set piece early. That maul against Auz was impressive. Taking meters of a team can seriously tire them. Or maybe this is just a way to negate Itoji being on the bench. But think it more of a tactic than a player choice.

Jordy hasn’t played at fullback for a number of years and I am searching in my memory for a time when he had a good game there. What you are saying just reinforces my argument that there are a number of posters who if Quinn replaces him at 12 will rack their brains to see where else he can go.

He is no longer a specialist fullback and Jordan is not a specialist wing so your suggestion makes no sense.

I think “Father Time” is giving BB a great big bear hug that is hard to shake off but Jordi still has something to offer when he comes back.

Lots will depend on how the centres go and if the combination works well (and Jordi doesn’t make 12) given his ability, they may consider if he is worth considering at 15, with Will Joprdan moving back to wing.

Given he is going to play for Leinster for the foreseeable, there is no practical point in playing him this tour, except as injury cover.

I think they will take a good look at him when he comes back from Leinster and see what his form is like and then there will be some big decisions.

You’re truly reality-proof. At no point was the age grade dominated by IRE. Domination requires victory. Never have Ireland won the U20 RWC. Since COVID, Ireland were 2nd, 4th, and 11th. In no way, shape and form can that be described as domination. FRA, and ENG, yes. But IRE has no business being in that sentence.

Finishing 1st, 2nd, and 4th since COVID, FRA’s average finish is 2.33, closer to silver than bronze. Second behind them are England (4,1,6) tied with South Africa (3,7,1) with the exact same average record of 3,67. Ireland with their 2nd, 4th, and 11th finish are on average 5,67, that’s two positions behind England and South Africa. So, really FRA, ENG, and SA have dominated, with NZ narrowly behind them (average 4). Then Australia (5,33), and only then Ireland (5,67) just narrowly sneaking ahead of Argentina (6 on average). So your notion of Ireland dominating the age grade since COVID is a pure pipe dream.
