Australia international Quade Cooper said he has no time for fans who tear plays down in the wake of a supporter’s viral rant.

The Wallabies have been heavily scrutinised following Saturday’s disappointing 24-19 defeat to Scotland in Sydney, with one fan – Jack Quigley – taking to Facebook to condemn the performance.

Quigley questioned whether the Australia side cared about playing for their country, while he even offered to travel to Brisbane to speak to the squad as Wallabies head coach Michael Cheika contacted him directly.

Wallaby veteran Cooper, however, told reporters he does not respect ‘armchair critics’.

“I’m not saying it [criticism] is unfair … To see the passion from fans like that is great – it’s great to see that the fans are hurting as well because they go through the tough times as well,” Cooper said on Tuesday.

“But it’s easy for people to sit behind a keyboard and throw barbs and tell you that you’re not doing your job.

“You see it across all walks of life when people are giving everything and I’ve no respect for it.

“When you come out here and see the hard work that goes in – nobody goes out there to lose.”

Cooper added: “I’ve got no respect for that but I have a lot of respect for people who stick with you throughout the ride, the ups and downs.

“The boys are working hard. Losing is a part of professional sport and I can tell you we want to get trophies and put them in the cabinet.”
