'Not good enough': All Blacks assistant coach admits poor performance

New Zealand’s hooker Codie Taylor (R) reacts after England’s fly half George Ford (unseen) scored a second drop goal during the Autumn Nations Series international rugby union match between England and New Zealand at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, in south-west London.

Moments have been a common word in and around All Blacks camp in the past couple of weeks, with Scott Robertson’s side managing to win games in the final 20 minutes through some individual brilliance by the likes of Damian McKenzie.

But this time around against England at Allianz Stadium in London, it was Steve Borthwick’s England side who took their opportunities to take a famous victory over the All Blacks, to end the hopes of a Grand Slam for the Kiwis.

All Blacks assistant coach Scott Hansen, who spoke to Sky Sport after the England defeat, admits that it just wasn’t good enough from his side.

“Disappointed tonight, on our efforts and our actions, but not good enough tonight,” Hansen said to Sky Sport.

“They went to the air when they needed to, they’re very composed, very disciplined in what they did and we didn’t quite get those battles the way we needed to at times. A lot of players going backwards, and not always having eyes on the ball.

“And they won some of those scraps, that compromised our momentum at times. In the first half, when we showed some composure and we got our shoulders through, we had some good opportunities in attack but all credit to England.

“England defended really well, spread the field, and we didn’t always make the right decision on our attack, whether or not we had to go through them or around them.”

The All Blacks will now head to Cardiff to take on Wales who are coming off the back of their first victory at home in over two years, while Robertson’s side will now be looking to finish their end-of-year Northern Tour with a bounce-back victory.

For Hansen, he believes that it’s important that the team focus on what they did well during the England Test, as well as identifying the areas where they struggled ahead of Wales.

“I think for us just getting back, acknowledging what we did is important, but fundamentally for us, how we attacked and got caught in the middle of the field tonight, we’re able to take the opportunities in front. So there’ll be some good pictures for us to learn from.

“I think we need to focus on the week. It’s really important not to pass it in any regards, you focus on the week because it’s important for us. Now, we always knew it was either going to be one where we’re going for a Grand Slam, or we we need to bounce back aggressively, and that’s going to be the focus for the week.”

Our tackle percentage has been good tho some like like QT ( missed 3 again ) repeat offenders but there is not many dominant tackles happening ..Tupou V Holland Paddy T Aumua all granted dudes who love a collision and add a heap of physicality but in our loosies? Parker ? Finau don’t get a game ( an he can hit ) ditto that for midfield I reckon

Yup QT’s missed tackles, QT’/Procters disconnect to allow Dingwall to walk through untouched. Same same every test.

In everyones ‘hate’ of Reiko you all avoid admitting Reiko’s channel has never been scored down. Nor the one outside him. Reiko always wins his collisions and recycles quickly therefor getting us onto the front foot.

Last time he and Jordie were 13/12 we were No 1, on the ascent and playing to shape and a system.

Now, we’re No 4… the lowest we have ever been and justified.

Blah blah blah, yes some of the team were pretty average but BB was abysmal, l’m sick to death of when we’re attacking he kicks the ball back to the opposition no serious chasers just a blatant gift! Not to mention not finding touch from penalties, He was one of the biggest reasons for the loss and if He’s playing against Wales l'm not bothering to watch.lts not been just this game it’s been all season and a few before.

Those 3 words perfectly describe the coach and his coaching staff.

Losing is acceptable. Losses involving a complete collapse of discipline, which is what happened in both this match and the Boks, is not. All their matches seem “a game of two halves”, which only deepens suspicion of a disconnect between players and coaching staff.

They've lost the dressing room for sure or maybe there’s discontent among the players l know for damn sure if l was one of the forwards working tirelessly to win the ball to have BB kick it back to them throughout the match l'd get pretty annoyed.Much easier attacking than having to be defending unnecessarily in a really physical crunch match

Scott Robertson comments that the team played some good stuff doesn't cut it and change that the AB's were thrashed by England who played HARDER and were SMARTER when it mattered for the full 80 minutes…

The AB's coaching staff had a three day heads up of Englands game plan and were dealt a harsh reality check of what they must do going forward…

The No.8 wire, thinking outside the square and Kiwi ingenuity is what we’re really good at and has gotten us out of the outhouse, more often than not…

To be fair England were a lot more direct than I expected. They picked a team to kick chase and by England standards they didn't actually do it that much. It wasn't just the kick chase that the ABs didn't deal well with. The scrum was poor, tackling was poor, discipline was poor and the backline were static. It was one of the worst AB performances I can recall.

It wasn’t a reality check. This has been happening for two years.

They still have a habit of dropping out of games for a length of time and not moving the scoreboard.

They don't always have to be poor to lose, though. It takes some due credit away from their opponents.

true, but has anyone believed they have put in a decent 80 minutes in any match?

Another poor performance and other assistants jumping ship. Hansen is not good enough.
