Michael Cheika lined up for sensational return to Rugby Union

We were led to believe that Joe Schmidt left the Wallabies in order to be with his family in NZ. Now he’s reported as going to Ireland. Seems as though there’s more to the Wallabies story than we’ve been told.

There is nothing sensational about Cheika ! Just BS , bluster and then out the back door .

Kind of hilarious if true. Shows how out of ideas both Rugby NSW and RA are if they think Cheika can fix anything.

He was given unprecedented carte blanche to basically do whatever he wanted as coach following the unexpected success of the 2014 Tahs and the against the run appearance of the Wallabies in the 2015 RWC final on his watch.

Which other coach of any team ever has been given such free reign after failing so spectacularly and allowed to take the team to a second world cup with all the fails in-between pre-forgiven?

And 2019 was an absolute scorched earth. He left Australian rugby with nothing and all they could do at that stage was throw a Hail Mary out in the hopes they'd be able to secure someone.

DR to his credit came in with the belief that he could transform the Wallabies and Australian rugby more generally. But he was given such short shrift that he basically couldn't do what was needed and the results speak for themselves.

Eddie then pranked us all for a cool million dollar paycheck on his way through to Japan before again the SOS went out and only New Zealand answered.

Joe stepped up following the end of his tenure with the ABs and again framed that he could retire Australian rugby to its once respected place among the pantheon of champions.

Instead, like his compatriots before him, he was hamstrung with conditions placed on what he could do with the team. Imagine if either he or DR had been given the same free reign that Cheika had what they might have been able to achieve with it.

Clearly the biggest own goal of all is the passing over of White for coach back in 2013. If he'd been installed he may even still be at the helm today. But of course we can never know now.

And once again we return to old ideas that have been proven time and again not to work. Something about doing the same things over and over and expecting different results.

Last time Cheika built success around Potgieter the SA Dynamo .

Cheika is mostly BS and bluster not a coach .

Hopefully he may have learnt something .

Changing the coach at the Waratahs won’t resolve the issues they have with poor recruitment, poor culture and far too much of a sense of entitlement amongst everyone from the board down. They’ve already gone back to the past to try and move forward and this would just make it worse.

Please let it be fake news. Eddie 2.0, he will be white anting the Wallabies from Day 1 if he gets the NSW job.
