Keiron Assiratti released from Wales squad with replacement called up
Keiron Assiratti has been released from Wales’ Guinness Six Nations squad after picking up a calf injury in Cardiff’s United Rugby Championship victory over Benetton at the weekend.
The tighthead has been replaced by his Cardiff club-mate Sam Wainwright in the Wales squad, who assembled on Monday in preparation for their Six Nations campaign, which begins on February 7 against England at Twickenham’s Allianz Stadium.
Wales have not specified how long the 19-cap Assiratti will be sidelined for, but it seems likely that he will miss the opening round of the Championship against England.
The 27-year-old Wainwright will now be looking to add to his four Wales caps.
Wales head coach Steve Tandy said: “It’s obviously disappointing for Keiron, but that gives an opportunity for Sam and we’re delighted for him to join the group.”
