'I just don’t think it was consistent enough': Great Britain confirm squads for SVNS New York

Both of Great Britain Sevens’ Men’s and Women’s teams have made no changes to their squads ahead of HSBC SVNS New York.
This weekend’s tournament at Sports Illustrated Stadium is the final stop of the 2025/26 HSBC SVNS Series season. Both Great Britain’s men’s and women’s teams are placed at the foot of the overall standings.
Last weekend for the Women’s squad it was a familiar story. In all of their matches they failed to pick up a win and kept up their record of zero tournament wins or points this season.

Just like a week ago the side have the Olympic experience of Heather Cowell, Abbie Brown and Grace Compton. They have been named in Pool A with New Zealand, France and Fiji.
Ben Salmon will play in his second ever HSBC SVNS Series tournament for the men’s side this weekend, who have been named in Pool B with Spain, Fiji and Argentina.
Ciaran Beattie, Great Britain Sevens Director of Rugby, said: “The women are consistently taking steps forward but we’re looking to turn individual performances into something that can be on show for the whole 14 minutes.
“If we’re able to do that, I have complete faith we’ll be able to get across that line. We just need to keep taking those steps forward From the men’s side, in honesty it’s just been a difficult weekend riddled with illness and injury.
“We came into Vancouver with some real high hopes of positive performances, whilst we saw it in spells, I just don’t think it was consistent enough. We’re all staying positive though and looking forward to playing in a new location of New York.”
After this weekend the two teams will begin preparation for HSBC SVNS World Championship events in Hong Kong, Valladolid and Bordeaux.
There the teams will want to stake a claim to keep their Series status and avoid relegation to HSBC SVNS 2.
