Highly-rated Hyett swaps Gloucester Hartpury for Bristol Bears
Bristol Bears have confirmed the midseason arrival of Millie Hyatt from Premiership Women’s Rugby champions Gloucester Hartpury.
The highly versatile back made her debut for the West Country club as an 18-year-old and came off the bench in the Circus’ 2023/24 PWR final victory over Exeter Chiefs at Kingsholm Stadium.
Two years ago the 20-year-old was named in John Mitchell’s first Red Roses camp of 2024. Capable of playing fly-half or in the centres, Hyett has not made a league appearance for Dan Murphy’s Gloucester Hartpury this season.
Instead the back’s match minutes have come with Hartpury University in BUCS competition and for Great Britain on the HSBC SVNS Series stops in Singapore and Perth.
Hyett joins a Bristol side enjoying a resurgent second half to the season, which has seen Scott Lawson’s team win three of their five games since the turn of the year.
There is a likelihood that Hyett’s arrival in the West Country will see the 20-year-old primary operating at fly-half.
With Ruahei Demant’s four-month contract expiring at the end of March, there is a need for Bristol to add an additional playmaker to their ranks and keep up their good form in 2026.
In a 2024 RugbyPass interview Hyett said: “I’d say I’m a triple threat. I’ve got a good running game, I can kick and I can make those big passes.
“I don’t think you find that in many people, especially in our age group, and even throughout the Premiership Women’s Rugby.
“I think I can be unpredictable. It makes me hard to defend. Am I going to run? Will I look for the pass or even kick it behind the defender.”
This season Hyett has been a regular feature in LJ Lewis’ England U21 Women’s camps. This Spring the age grade side will play matches against Scotland, Ireland, and France in the Six Nations Women’s U21 Series.
