France centre Gael Fickou has signed for Toulon on a two-year deal ahead of next season, according to French outlet L’Equipe.

The 32-year-old will be released from the final year of his contract in Paris in order to move to the Côte d’Azur, the place of his birth.

Fickou came through the Toulon academy but never featured for the club, and instead joined Toulouse as a teenager before joining Stade Francais in 2019 and Racing 92 in 2021.

By opting to remain in France, Fickou will give himself the best chance to represent France at the 2027 World Cup, which will be his fourth World Cup should he be selected.

Fickou currently has 98 caps for Les Bleus, but was omitted from Fabien Galthie’s Guinness Six Nations squad, despite captaining his country as recently as November.

Fickou’s move will free up space on Racing 92’s wage bill to bring in some new names ahead of next season while remaining within the salary cap.

The Parisian big spenders are yet to splash the cash on any blockbuster signings ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, but that could change with Fickou’s exit.

Toulon, meanwhile, have been fairly busy on the transfer front ahead of next season, recently announcing the signing of France tighthead Rabah Slimani from Leinster ahead of next season. The blockbuster signing at the Stade Mayol so far has been the signature of Scotland and British & Irish Lions centre Huw Jones from Glasgow Warriors, who will form a new-look centre partnership alongside Fickou.
