Gabriel Oghre eager for more England action after signing new deal

England international Gabriel Oghre has committed his future to Bristol Bears after signing a new contract with the club.

The dynamic hooker has made 63 appearances for the Bears since arriving ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, scoring an impressive 26 tries.

He also scored on in his Test debut for England against the USA in Washington DC in July 2025, and hopes that more caps will follow in the near future.

“I’m really happy to have signed a new contract and to continue my journey with the Bears. I love being part of this group of players and the culture we’ve built here. It’s a brilliant environment to come into every day, with world-class coaching and facilities that give us everything we need to keep improving and performing at our best,” the 28-year-old former Wasps, Leicester Tigers and Bordeaux-Bègles player said.

“The way we want to play really suits me and gives me the freedom to express myself, while the coaches have continued to challenge me to improve all areas of my game.

“Earning my first England cap was a massive goal of mine when I came back to England and something I’m incredibly proud of, but it’s also given me even more motivation to keep improving and pushing for more opportunities at international level.

“We’ve got a really exciting group here and I believe we can achieve something special together. I’m excited for what’s ahead and hopefully I can keep contributing to the team and scoring a few more tries along the way.”

Bears director of rugby Pat Lam says that Oghre is now coming into his prime years as a hooker.

“Gabs has developed into one of the leading hookers in the PREM and we’re delighted that he has committed his future to the Bears,” he said.

“Seeing him earn his first England cap was a proud moment for everyone here. He came to Bristol with the ambition of getting into that England team and it’s been fantastic to see him achieve that through the quality and consistency of his performances for the Bears.

“He’s been outstanding for us over the past couple of seasons. His athleticism, power and skillset really suit the way we want to play, and at 28, Gabs is coming into the prime years of his career. The most exciting thing is that we believe his best is still to come from him.”
