Former PREM Dream Team full-back Telusa Veainu pens new deal
Veteran Tongan international full-back Telusa Veainu has been awarded a new two-year deal by Champ Rugby outfit Doncaster Knights, RugbyPass understands.
Veainu has spent the last two seasons at Castle Park and his latest deal will take him through to the end of the 2027/28 campaign, by which time he’ll be 37.
The New Zealand-born star scored nine tries in 15 appearances for Tonga over a nine-year Test career between 2015 and 2024.
He arrived at Doncaster from Sale Sharks, but is best known for a spell at Leicester, when he was voted as the best full-back in the Premiership in 2016.
The hot-stepping Veainu spent five seasons at the Tigers, scoring 32 tries in 79 appearances, before joining Sale via a spell in France with Stade Francais.
Veainu has scored five tries in 15 appearances for the Knights this season, including a length-of-the-field effort against Bedford in February, and has been one of the team’s most consistent performers in what has been an up and down campaign for the south Yorkshire club.
The Darren Fearns-coached team are currently ninth out of 14 in the Champ Rugby table after 19 rounds.
