Former All Black set to reach 150-game milestone as Reds face Blues

Former All Blacks prop Jeffery Toomaga-Allen is set to become the latest player to reach the rare 150-game milestone at Super Rugby level, named in the Queensland Reds matchday 23 in this weekend’s Super Round showdown with the Blues in Christchurch.

Toomaga-Allen, who made more than 115 matches for the Hurricanes before later making the move across the Tasman, has been named on the bench. This will be the front-rower’s 33^rd appearance for the Reds in Super Rugby Pacific.

Coach Les Kiss has made two changes to the run-on side, with prop Zane Nonggorr and Harry McLaughlin-Phillips coming into the First XV. Josh Nasser, Treyvon Pritchard and Ben Volavola are the returning players on the bench.

Wallabies Aidan Ross, Matt Faessler and Zane Nonggorr pack down as the formidable front row trio, while Seru Uru and Lukhan Salakaia-Loto are the two locks. The Reds have gone with the familiar loose forwards combination of Joe Brial, Fraser McReight and Harry Wilson.

One-Test Wallabies scrum-half Kalani Thomas will link up with Harry McLaughlin-Phillips in the halves, while Hunter Paisami and Josh Flook form the centre pairing. Tim ‘The Junkyard Dog’ Ryan and Filipo Daugunu are the wingers, with Jock Campbell retained at fullback.

“The Blues are an excellent side and the teams have played two high-quality games on this Anzac Day weekend the past two seasons,” Kiss said.

“Anzac Day is a significant day for both Australians and New Zealanders. The occasion has brought out the best in both teams.

“We know Christchurch will be buzzing with Super Round and the opening of the new stadium. The players really enjoy these big events.”

This match will be part of Super Round at the all-new One New Zealand Stadium in Christchurch, with five matches set to be played at the venue over three days. The Reds take on the Blues this Saturday, as part of a double-header with the ACT Brumbies versus the Hurricanes.
