Ireland were given a welcome boost ahead of the Six Nations with the news that Joey Carbery has been named on the bench for Leinster’s Champions Cup game with Montpellier this weekend.

Carbery has been out with a broken wrist, which he picked up while playing against Fiji in the Autumn internationals.

Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt named Carbery in his 36-man Six Nations squad on Wednesday, despite not having played since.

The 22-year-old Auckland-born player has been earmarked as one of Ireland’s most exciting prospects.

Johnny Sexton has been rested, while Jordan Larmour is given another chance to impress ahead of the Six Nations, he’s on the wing.

Leinster are top of Pool 3 with five wins from five and are already assured a home quarter-final, but will want to pick up at least a point at Altrad Stadium, as they seek to finish as top seeds, which ensures a semi-final in Ireland should they be drawn against a top four seeded team the last four of the competition.
