Benetton take historic step in Parma

Benetton became the first Italian side to reach the Guinness Pro14 Final Series after winning 25-11 at Zebre.

Luca Morisi and Toa Halafihi both scored first-half tries, while Sebastian Negri and Monty Ioane went over in the second period as Benetton extended their season with victory over their fellow Italians.

Zebre were restricted to two first-half penalties from Maicol Azzolini before

Mattia Bellini scored a consolation try in the closing stages.

The victory secured Benetton a third-place finish in Conference B and they will play at Glasgow Warriors or Munster in a semi-final qualifier.

When SA fitst intro’d the 7-1 v NZ in 2023 thay had Reinach as the one on the bench to cover 9 and both wings, and Willemse to move up from 15 to cover 10.

From the few Sharks’ matches I've bothered to watch on TV it was way past time Plumtree - like White eventually did at the Bulls - pushed off. Definitely yesterday's men who just haven't worked out the best way to play rugby, as exhibited by the genius Rassie. Thank heavens for Dobbo down here in Cape Town who seems to have followed the Boks’ example and is winning, like last night in Bayonne. As an ex-season ticket holder at King's Park it’s embarrassing to see how far they've gone down the tube but at least the Stormers - and hopefully the Bulls and the Lions - can give us some SA sides that might be doing better in the EPCR than previously.
