Argentina confirm the extent of Juan Cruz Mallía's injury

LONDON, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 23: Juan Cruz Mallia of Argentina kicks the ball upfield as Tom Curry prepares to tackle , which resulted in Mallia being replaced due to injury during the Quilter Nations Series 2025 rugby international match between England and Argentina at Allianz Stadium on November 23, 2025 in London, England. Argentina full-back Juan Cruz Mallía has suffered a tear to the ACL in his right knee, Los Pumas have confirmed in a medical update, after being hit by Tom Curry’s late tackle in Sunday’s Test against England at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.

The 29-year-old Toulouse star could now be sidelined for the remainder of the season, depending on the severity of the injury.

Argentina players were incensed with Curry – who was penalised for the tackle – and surrounded him on the pitch after the final whistle. The bad feeling spilled over into the tunnel, with Los Pumas head coach Felipe Contepomi claiming the England flanker swore at him and gave him “a little smack.’

Los Pumas have lodged a complaint and called for an investigation into the alleged tunnel fracas.

It is not the first time that Curry has been caught up in controversy, having accused Springboks hooker Bongi Mbonambi of racially abusing him in a match in 2023.

England head coach Steve Borthwick lept to his defence in the wake of the latest incident, claling his charcter “impeccable”.

Mallía’s kick was actually sublime. Despite getting creased in contact.

Doesn't get enough praise. It was a beauty.

15 v 15 you'd have backed the Pumas to finish england off.

That picture shows intent in Curry’s eyes. The ball has already left the hands to kick and Curry is miles away. To attempt a charge down is one thing but to complete the late tackle on a kicking player is dangerous and if you deal with it like head contact - it was always illegal, he has travelled from distance and he was reckless and out of control meaning a high degree of danger. All ingredients for a permanent red card. Why therefore no citing? Argentina are rightly angry and the player misses a season for club and country.

You realise Curry is about 2m from Malia at that point right going full chat?

Utter drivel. Presumably you only watched it in slow motion. It’s borderline late - the debate is whether it’s even a penalty or not. The hypocritical Pumas hit Ford about four times during the game in similar circumstances - perfectly reasonably in my view.

It was a textbook tackle, at most, 0.1 of a second too late.

You saw ‘intent in his eyes.’ What on Earth are you babbling about?

The language you’re using ‘high degree of danger’ ‘out of control’ etc, is the language for the process relating to head contact. You haven’t got a clue what you’re talking about.

The Pumas lost the plot and behaved like 14 year old girls - pouting because they lost…again.

I won’t say the game didn’t mean anything because it’s a match between two countries with pride on the line but it’s really disappointing to see such a useful player for Toulouse get injured in this type of match with a very important club season ahead.

Dman I googled the tackle, that’s an unlucky injury. Did Curry apologize?

It seems he did something quite different instead.

No, Curry didn’t apologise, he’s a disgrace to the sport. He had a chance to pull out and if he was that good a rugby player, he would have tried to block the kick.

Real shame for Malia who is a great player to watch.

Tackle had no intent to injure, it was late and that’s it. Shame it has resulted in this.

Pretty cheap shot and terrible result for Mallia. Reflects badly on Curry - and the adjudicating after weeks of microscopic interference.

A slightly late tackle, at at a legal height with full wrap, reflects badly? The outcome is extreme for an act so innocuous.

Terrible news.

Poor reflection on Captain Tom.

It gets worse: ‘claling his charcter “impeccable”’.

But then when it comes to the ‘Witkant’ Curry, maybe there's a third misspelling - perhaps it should have read ‘impeachable'?
