Aoife Wafer ruled out of Ireland’s World Cup opener
Ireland’s Aoife Wafer has been ruled out of the opening match of the Women’s World Cup as she is still working on her rehabilitation from injury.
The 22-year-old back row forward has remained in Dublin to complete her recovery from knee surgery last month and will not join the squad in Northampton until next week.
That means the 2025 Women’s Six Nations player of the tournament will miss Sunday’s game against Japan.
“Thirty-one players have come through training,” Ireland assistant coach Larissa Muldoon told reporters.
“Aoife Wafer stayed at home just to work on a few bits of rehab. She will join us next week in preparation looking into Spain.”
