Marlie Packer Bio

Born on 2 October 1989 in Yeovil, Somerset, Packer started playing rugby at the age of five. She trained at Ivel Barbarians in Yeovil, staying with the side until she was 18.

Her club career began in 2007, when she started playing for Bath. Then, in 2009, she moved to Bristol. She then signed with Wasps in 2013, before heading back to Bristol for a year. She then moved to Saracens in 2017, where she has stayed ever since.

On the international stage, Packer made her debut for England in 2008 and quickly developed a reputation as a fierce competitor. She went on to start in the 2014, 2017, and 2021 Rugby World Cup finals. She also represented England during the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens.

In 2019, Packer signed her full time contract with England. Following an ankle injury, she returned for the 2021 Rugby World Cup and scored a hat-trick during England's quarter-final against Australia.

Packer is particularly well known for her Six Nations accomplishments. She has won several Six Nations titles and multiple Grand Slams. In 2023, she was the tournament's top point and try scorer.

In the same year, Packer was named as England captain and she won the prestigious World Rugby Player of the Year award. In 2024, she earned her 100th international cap during the 2024 Six Nations. However, in July 2024, she was replaced as England captain by Zoe Aldcroft ahead of Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025.

2025 was another standout year for Marlie Packer. She won the Six Nations with England once again at the start of the year and then was named in her country’s squad for the 2025 Rugby World Cup. Although she made only one appearance during the tournament, scoring a try against Samoa, her experience and leadership were praised as vital to England’s successful campaign.

An established pro with more than 100 England caps in the bank, Marlie Packer still has lots more to give to the game she loves. We can’t wait to see what else she can achieve before she hangs up her boots.
