Finlay Bealham Bio

Finlay Bealham was born in Canberra, Australia on 9 October 1991. He grew up in the city and started to play rugby league at a young age. In fact, he didn’t begin to focus solely on rugby union until the age of 16.

Bealham was selected for the Australian schools team and represented their 'A' side but he did not receive a place in the Brumbies academy. As a result, he moved to Ireland in order to start his professional career.

Upon arriving in Ireland in 2010, Bealham initially played for amateur side Belfast Harlequins. After several impressive performances at the 2011 Junior World Cup, he was offered a place in the academy at Connacht.

Bealham progressed through the academy quickly and also represented the province’s second-tier side, the Connacht Eagles. Only a couple of years after joining the academy, he made his debut for the first team in the 2013-14 Pro12 season.

Ever since, Finlay Bealham has enjoyed a highly-successful career with Connacht. He’s made more than 200 appearances for the side and he helped them win the Pro12 title in 2016.

Despite playing junior rugby for Australia, Finlay Bealham ultimately decided to represent Ireland at international level. He qualifies to play for the country via his grandmother, who was born in Northern Ireland.

After discovering his Ireland eligibility, Bealham joined the Irish Exiles program and became involved in Ireland’s youth set-up. He then represented his country at both U20 and Emerging Ireland level before making his senior Ireland debut in 2016.

Since, Finlay Bealham has been capped more than 50 times by his country and has helped Ireland win two Six Nations titles, including a Grand Slam in 2023.

Thanks to his performances for Connacht and Ireland, Finlay Bealham was named in the British and Irish Lions squad for the team’s 2025 tour of Australia. Although he wasn’t named in the initial touring party, he was called up to the squad when Zander Fagerson was ruled out of the tour through injury. He didn’t make a test appearance on the tour, but did play in five midweek/warmup matches.

Still playing top-class rugby and with many years of elite rugby ahead of him, we can’t wait to see what else Finlay Bealham can achieve in the game.
