Emily Lane Bio

Born on 10 January 1999, Emily Lane first played rugby for Mallow RFC. While studying at UCC, she also played for Ballincollig for one year. At this point, she devoted most of her career to rugby sevens. That said, she did enjoy a year with Munster’s U18s team, where she impressed.

Following a chance meeting with IRFU’s Development Officer Stan McDowell, Lane ultimately decided to move to Dublin, where the Irish Sevens squad is based. In 2018, she received a sevens development contract with the Irish Rugby Football Union.

Later in the same year, Lane made her debut for the Irish sevens team. She’s played for the squad ever since, regularly making appearances in the World Rugby Sevens Series.

In 2020, the cancellation of the World Rugby Sevens Series gave Lane an opportunity to play more 15s. As a result, she signed for All-Ireland League side Blackrock College RFC.

Since then, she’s represented Ireland in both codes. As well as playing rugby sevens at the 2024 Olympics, she’s also played XV-a-side rugby for Ireland in both the Six Nations and at two editions of the Rugby World Cup

At the 2025 World Cup in England, she featured as a replacement scrum-half. Although Ireland dipped out in the quarters to France, Lane developed her role as a dual-code international.

Still young and with her best years ahead of her, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Emily Lane.
