Scotland duo Zander Fagerson and Kyle Steyn will both make their first appearances of the season for Glasgow in Saturday’s Investec Champions Cup pool-stage match at Sale.
The influential pair have recovered from injuries and been named in the starting XV after Franco Smith made eight changes to the side that defeated Connacht in the United Rugby Championship last Friday.
Forwards Euan Ferrie and Alex Craig are also back after injury lay-offs while South African number eight Ruwald van der Merwe will make his debut after joining recently from Pumas in his homeland.
“We look forward to getting our Champions Cup campaign under way against a Sale Sharks squad that we know will provide a strong, physical test in front of their home supporters,” said Smith.
“Ruwald has worked hard since arriving in Glasgow to put himself in the best position possible, and has earned his opportunity to start tomorrow.
“We are also pleased to welcome Kyle, Alex, Zander and Euan back into the line-up – each player has been diligent in their work with our medical and strength and conditioning teams, ensuring that they are in the best shape for their return.”
It is set to be a poignant occasion at CorpAcq Stadium as Sale pay tribute to their former lock Hyron Andrews, who died at the Lions’ team hotel ahead of their Champions Cup match away to La Rochelle this weekend.
“On behalf of everyone at Glasgow, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the Lions, Hyron’s family, friends and team-mates following the tragic loss,” said Warriors head coach Smith.
