Watch: The mythical 10 point try

By Peteso Cannon

There have been many fables told throughout rugby circles over the years, for example; that Richie McCaw was consistently offside. Every single time. However, in reality he wasn’t adhering to our three dimensional understanding of rugby, by doing so he was able to be onside from an offside position. In a post match interview he said he got the idea from French philosopher Descartes.

More recently there have been repeated witness sightings of 10 point tries, these people were dismissed as crazy or not of sound mind. Until last weekend, when it actually happened.

It came in the form of Argentina’s final conciliatory try against South Africa. As Matias Moroni touched the ball down, Andries Coetzee the Springboks fullback unceremoniously smashed him into the hoarding boards.

Coetzee received a yellow card for his actions and the Puma’s were awarded a penalty from the halfway line on completion of their conversion. Argentina opted for the three points, both the conversion and the resulting penalty were dispatched with relative ease. Hence a 10 point try for Argentina.
