Malcolm Marx, the hot property in Springbok real estate since his phenomenal display against the All Blacks two weeks ago was interviewed a number of days ago, recanting the New Zealand game and looked ahead to the November Internationals.

In an honest and frank interview, Marx discusses mind games that occur between opposing packs, also admitting to partaking in them himself.

He also shows great humility when the talk turned towards the Springboks northern tour, when asked what game he is most looking forward to, Marx’s response was “let me first see if I make the squad.”

Weren’t the in it in both games with like 10 to go? I kept thinking what SK said that if they were busier on attack they could win these games.

I know there is a boat load of kiwis lined up that people from the north like to bill up but I’m a bit hesitant on them. I think it was Evans how commentated an AB XV game posing all sorts of poor tactical ideas.

I don’t really think it was safe as houses through RC either SK, against all three opponents. Simple case of fatigue you have to expect, surely, and you made the most pertinent point, that the fatigue was even more noticeable on attack.

It could also just be that South Africa had two off tests and that the All Blacks despite not having the highs of South Africa were a much better team through the year.

It’s in line with league though, a very standoffish defensive mindset through the sets, so he should be able to do both.

If you’ve watched him play league, you’ll know theres just as many disasters him being aggressive. I would think the rest of their team suits high linespeed though.

But England have done something new and definite on defence with their three sevens in the back row, and they shifted Wigglesworth to D coach to improve it too. And ofc the Eng system is more aggressive than the one used by Aussie.

Because Jorgo is not the pin-up boy of Aussie rugby. As JAS goes so will Aussie up until 2027 so it’s fair to analyze whether the’s beeing used to best effect.

I don’t think he is.

Yep I highlighted in several previous articles how Aussie had struggled with the NH refs at the BD, and the game against France was reffed by an Englishman!

The theory behind Schmidt’s D system has been around for more than a deacde and tbf it has stood the test of time at most levels. At international level it has been overtaken by more aggressive linespeed systems and I do not feel it has helped JAS in particular.

Australia looked like they were solving their defensive woes in the early part of the season with improved discipline. Their drift system gives up space quite readily allowing teams to go wide or hit the line flat to get over the advantage line but also gets their jacklers in the game when the ball carrier advances beyond their support and they have some really good jacklers in that Wallaby team. If you can keep the opponent away from the line it works quite well, allows turnovers and quick counterattacks on transition which they did to the Boks and Lions. Once the Wallabies got northern refs they failed to adapt, their discipline collapsed and they allowed easy entries and conceded ground from pens which allowed teams to build pressure close to the line. Not only does this team urgently need a reset on defence but they need a laws consultant or at least someone that creates a better understanding of the pictures the refs are looking for week to week.
