I agree with Hamish, leadership is the number 1 thing to fix in the All Blacks. I believe NZR need 2 CEO’s, one for professional rugby, one for amateuer rugby.

Who are the coaches is up to the NZR Board and we want to see leadership from David Kirk.

I don’t see how you can call it a ‘Northampton ambush’? They did everything but get the result one year before! So Leinster had been warned.

Leinster have been beatin teams by large scores for years before that. We knew how to do it in the Lancaster era, but it did not always prepare us for the pointy end of the comp.

I think it’s been a doubly whammy - Sexton was such a brilliant leader, he always got 5% more out of that team, so firstly they lost him, then we have seen a bit more decline and the two together have made a big impact.

It was no different when Farrell left Saracens for Racing, the two teams have seen similar challenges once the leader steps away. I think Sarries will make it back to the playoffs with him back this year, he has that big an impact on the team.

At a regional level, they have upgraded the coaching standard this year, so that should have a positive impact over the next 3 years, which feeds into the National team.

I agree on Leinster, they are not the attacking force they were but the other teams are on an upward curve from where they have been, which should help produce a greater depth of talent for the future.

Is it possible? Yes it is. Is it probable? No it is not. Just like Wales, Ireland has had a good few years but that cannot last if you cannot replace outgoing players with the same or better. Most Irish supporters will be up in arms at this statement but it is the truth.

Kenny is a natural. That try was a lot better than it looked. If the Ulster player had his time he would have waited to make sure Kenny was coming infield. A hint of hesitation was all Kenny needed.

I was close to the Leinster lads warm up. Prendergast missed nothing in the warmup. Once the whistle blew, as you say, unsettled. Harry Byrne is a different story however. Calm and authorative. Even at 12 yesterday he was able to move Leinster around and into scoring positions.

I was at the match. Not sure I agree that Ulster had that game won. Leinster came back very strong to overtake them even with the Ryan sin bin. The decision not to kick the 3 to go 10-5 up was just bizarre. The strategy was to win the match conclusively in the second half, Harry Byrne would have had the authority to take the 3 there as he did wisely versus Leicester. 2 mins later Kock was scoring a try down the other end leading to a 7-17 H/T score. 10-5 and its very hard for Ulster.

Last year Leinster were slow to get going until later in the Champions Cup when they were steamrolling teams before being ambushed by Northampton. They are missing the subtely of Jordie Barret in the backline.

Springboks rule the skies as access law leads to more kicking

I think that type of analysis can be really useful - there’s just better people out there. Squidge, and especially Wibble Rugby on Youtube are much better IMO at understanding trends rather than just hyperfocusing on the minutiae.

The only future for Welsh rugby is for all four regions to join the Prem. as they shd have done 30 yrs ago.this wd restore old rivalries and increase the fan base and sponsors and cut travel costs. The Prem wd then have a better product to sell to broadcasters.

Bath it Bristol v Cardiff or Llanelliwill always be a sell out.

It feels like when Joe Schmidt’s end date as an international coach looms, performance levels drop. It happened with Ireland in 2019 and it’s happening now with Australia.

Interesting observation Mitch. And it feels more like a rupture than a smooth handover doesn’t it?

Nienaber is an excellent coach but he’s trying to get Leinster to use the Springbok formula and it does not suit them.
