Wallabies lock Miles Amatosero cops suspension for dangerous ruck entry

Wallabies and Waratahs lock Miles Amatosero has copped a suspension for a dangerous ruck entry against Japan in Osaka.
Amatosero was yellow-carded in the 33rd minute of Les Kiss’ first outing as head coach of the Wallabies for a high shot on a Japanese player at a breakdown.
Referee Eoghan Cross initially sent the lock to the sin bin before the yellow card turned red, ruling the Waratahs enforcer out of the rest of the contest.

The Wallabies overcame a valiant effort from Eddie Jones’ Brave Blossoms, helped by second-half scores from Max Jorgensen, Fraser McReight, and Taniela Tupou.
Japan worked their way back into the contest during the second 40 minutes, but fell just short at home, as they head to Australia for the second game of the Flight Centre 2026 series.
But the Wallabies will be without the 24-year-old for the reverse fixture in Townsville this weekend, after copping a lengthy ban for the red card.
The Foul Play Review Committee (FPRC) has decided that Amatosero was guilty of dangerous play for a contrary charge into a ruck or maul, in breach of Law 9.20(a).
“The FPRC determined that the act of foul play merited a mid-range entry point of six weeks/matches.
“In light of Amatosero’s admission that he committed an act of foul play, along with mitigating factors such as his disciplinary history, experience, and remorse, the FPRC imposed a reduction of three weeks on the sanction.
“Amatosero has been suspended from all forms of the game for three weeks, which will apply to the fixtures below.
“Amatosero was given permission to apply to take part in World Rugby’s Coaching Intervention Programme as a substitute for the final match of the sanction.”
The three games the Sydney-born lock will miss will begin this weekend against Japan, and the last match will be the Wallabies’ first clash against Argentina in just over two weeks.
