Joe Schmidt has named a 40-strong squad for a training camp early in the new year, bringing his Australia-based players together before they disperse into their respective Super Rugby Pacific clubs.

More than a handful of players will miss the camp while playing for clubs in Europe, the absent group includes senior figures like Angus Bell, Taniela Tupou, James O’Connor, Will Skelton, Tom Hooper and Len Ikitau.

One uncapped player has made the cut, that being Queensland Reds prop Massimo De Lutiis, while injured star fullback Tom Wright will also be in attendance.

The Wallabies open their 2026 season on July 4 against Ireland in Sydney, in the first round of the Nations Championship.

“The couple of days we have together in early January will provide a final opportunity to look back on, and to learn from, a demanding 2025 Test campaign,” said Schmidt.

“It also provides a chance to complete some national testing and check in with the players from a medical perspective before they return to their Super Rugby Pacific clubs ahead of the 2026 season.”
