Wales release 10 players from Six Nations squad
Ospreys lock Rhys Davies has been released from Wales’ Six Nations squad after picking up an ankle injury last week in training.
After initially missing out on Wales’ Six Nations squad, the 27-year-old was added by Steve Tandy ahead of the Championship as cover for Freddie Thomas, who was nursing a hamstring injury.
The lock failed to feature in Wales’ opening three matches of the tournament against England, France and Scotland.
A further nine players have been released from the squad as the United Rugby Championship returns this weekend during the Six Nations fallow week.
All nine players did not feature in the 26-23 defeat to Scotland at the Principality Stadium on Saturday.
Cardiff trio Liam Belcher, Mason Grady and Ben Thomas have returned to the club for their clash with reigning champions Leinster at Cardiff Arms Park on Friday, with Corniel van Zyl’s side able to leapfrog the Irish province with a big win.
The Ospreys will also be boosted by four players for their meeting with fourth-place Ulster in Swansea. Harri Deaves, Reuben Morgan-Williams, Gareth Thomas and Owen Watkin will all be available as the ninth-place Ospreys look to climb into the top eight.
The final two players Josh Macleod and Tom Rogers, will return to Scarlets for their trip north to take on Edinburgh on Friday.
The Welsh squad will reconvene on Sunday, March 1, ahead of their final two matches of the Championship against Ireland and Italy as they look to snap their run of 14 Six Nations matches without a win.
