Hooker Lake, who captained his country in their summer tour of Australia and November internationals, had been ruled out of the initial Six Nations squad due to a bicep injury.

Lake has not featured in the championship since his debut campaign in 2022 due to injury but is now one of four hookers in the group alongside Elliot Dee, Sam Parry and Evan Lloyd.

His recall takes the number of players in Matt Sherratt’s squad to 38, although 13 of those have returned to their clubs in England and France for the fallow week.

The Welsh Rugby Union also announced on Tuesday morning that a further six players, Cardiff’s Ellis Bevan, Ospreys teammates Dan Edwards, Parry and Ben Warren and Scarlets pair Taine Plumtree and Joe Roberts have been released back to their regions ahead of round 12 of the United Rugby Championship.
