Two debutants named in Eagles' squads for SVNS 2's South America finale
USA Men’s Eagles Sevens head coach Zack Test has maintained that his team will continue to focus on themselves at HSBC SVNS 2 events in Montevideo and São Paulo.
Last time out in Kenya the Eagles won four of their five games at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi. As a result of points difference the USA finished second, Germany finished first and Kenya placed third.
Another strong performance this weekend in Montevideo will go a long way to securing the Eagles place in the top four and a spot at the HSBC SVNS World Championship.
There is a return to the team for Ryan Santos, who will add to his four international sevens caps to date, while Tucker Trickey and Aaron Faison will earn their debuts for the Eagles Sevens in South America.
“Kenya gave us great clarity and showed us that we must have consistency in everything we do,” Zack Test, USA Men’s Eagles Sevens head coach, said. “At this time of the season, it’s rarely about big changes, but more about executing the small details over and over under pressure.
“Having seen the teams once [in Kenya] certainly gives us more information, but our preparation hasn’t shifted away from our core focus, which is ourselves and the details of how we want to play. Understanding opposition tendencies is helpful because it gives context to certain moments in games, but ultimately our priority is making sure we execute our systems and play the way we want to play.
“Since returning, we’ve spent time refining areas and building a deeper understanding of what true discipline, work ethic, and consistency look like in every moment of a match. For us, the focus is making sure our standards travel, regardless of opponent, environment, or scoreboard. When we do the small things well and stay connected to our process, our game tends to take care of itself.”
After this weekend’s tournament in Montevideo all 12 teams will travel to São Paulo for the final round of SVNS 2 competition. Finishing in the top four of the overall standings will secure teams with a place at HSBC SVNS World Championship events in Hong Kong, Valladolid and Bordeaux.
