Toulon officially announce signing of Pumas pivot Tomás Albornoz
Toulon have officially confirmed the club’s long-rumoured recruitment of Los Pumas 10 Tomás Albornoz, with the pivot signing a long-term deal that will see him remain in southern France until 2030.
A specialist 10 throughout his professional career, Albornoz joins Italy’s star playmaker, Paolo Garbisi, as an option at 10 for Pierre Mignoni.
With Garbisi also under contract until 2027, Toulon are well and truly covered for the years to come, and are sure to get the most out of their flyhalves while they compete for gametime.
Albornoz has now made 25 Test appearances for Argentina, leading the team to famous wins against New Zealand, the Lions, and South Africa in the past 18 months.
Having spent the past four seasons at Benetton after starting his professional career at the Jaguars in Super Rugby, the 28-year-old will join the third-placed Top 14 heavyweights at the end of the December.
“I am very honoured to join Rugby Club Toulonnais, a historic club that every player knows in the world of rugby,” he said.
“I have a lot of respect for this institution and for the unique atmosphere of the Mayol stadium. I arrive with the desire to give the best of myself, to progress further and to contribute to the ambitions of the RCT. I can’t wait to start this new adventure and meet the Red & Black supporters.”
Laurent Emmanuelli, Sports Director of the RCT, added, “We are very happy to welcome Tomás to Toulon.
“He is a player who has demonstrated, both in the club and with the Pumas, an impressive regularity and an ability to make his team play in the right direction. His profile corresponds perfectly to the RCT’s sports project: ambition, demand and total commitment.
“Tomás is a competitor, creator and leader. We are convinced that it will bring real added value to our collective as soon as it arrives.”
